Founder Story

MEXT

Meet the founding team behind Mext and radically lower the cost of computing with their AI-powered predictive memory technology.

January 6, 2025

MEXT was founded by Gary Smerdon, David Reed, and Bobby Minnear in 2023, who previously pioneered key industry advances, from the creation of the Internet itself to Flash in the data center to Ethernet on the motherboard and more.

After making their mark with these industry-shaping advances, they focused on attacking two of the biggest problems in the data center: the high cost and limited capacity of server memory (DRAM).

The result was Mext and a radical reduction in the cost of computing.

MEXT’s patented software solution transparently makes Flash appear as main memory (i.e., DRAM).

MEXT’s Predictive Memory software uses AI to continually optimize and move cold pages to Flash and push hot pages back into DRAM before the application requests them.

This allows applications to run with a smaller DRAM footprint and now have essentially unlimited memory. As a result, IT teams can:

  • Achieve up to 40% lower costs for their large-memory applications (Spark, Redis, Memcached, Weaviate, Neo4j, and more).
  • Alternatively, grant their applications access to 2X or more of the memory capacity while maintaining the same cost profile.
  • Install and deploy in less than 1 hour, on-premises or in the cloud.
